Ajay Singh Chaudhary on National Youth Day: The youth of our country should be more responsible… must be aware of our history and culture

National Youth Day or Yuva Diwas is observed in India on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, on January 12. The day celebrates the youth of India, their potential, strength, thought process and also inspires them to become good human beings and join hands in Nation building. Speaking on the occasion, Tenali Rama actor Ajay Singh shares his suggestions for the youth, who are overexposed to information and social media in today’s time and age.

“Everything has pros and cons. And, yes, everything has to be balanced. Information on social media is a blessing we have. A lot of information is there. In earlier days when I started my career, there was nothing like that. We used to do a lot of good work but not many knew about it. These days whatever we do comes on social media and people connect with us. I use social media for the sake of connecting. I take it as a tool. For youngsters, I would say that it should be used in a balanced way. It is not bad at all,” he says.

Too much information is sometimes dangerous. “We lose our innocence and genuineness and it leads to indecisiveness. We can’t concentrate but then it all depends on the individual. According to me, it can be dangerous to those who are more into social media. One needs to understand how to use it,” he continues, “Youth is the hope of our future. I feel the youth should become more responsible. To make the youth responsible we have to become more responsible. They should take this legacy ahead, so we should help them grow better. The youth should be well aware of our history and culture.”

Many opine that youth can bring about a social change but many times their political views affect it. Agreeing, Ajay adds, “I also think that everybody has their own views about politics. In today’s political arena, a lot of young people are also coming and putting their ideas. It takes a long time to change and enforce. Change takes time and for the last 8-10 years it’s been good. The way our nation is advancing is really great and we are getting better and better.”

Do you feel the advancement in technology has made them lazy? “I don’t as it is an individual thing. Technology has no connection. Technology helps us but it all depends on how we react to it. Advancement in technology is really good unless we take it in a balanced way. Technology can’t make a person lazy or active,” he says.

The one advice that the actor would like to give today’s youth is that they should know about our customs, traditions, history and culture. “They should gain knowledge and use it in the right way as that can help them in taking our country to newer heights,” he adds.
