Jason Tham excited to do Bosco Martis’ Rocket Gang: It’s a full-fledged dance film that has a nice blend of action, romance, comedy, and horror along with a heart-warming story

Jason Tham is excited to be a part of Rocket Gang. He plays the character of Bunnu in this upcoming film. The actor, who has been a part of prominent projects such as Dil Dosti Dance, Agent Raghav, Sanjeevani 2, Happy Phir Bhag Jayegi, Swaraj and Grey Wars (yet to release), is excited that his career is moving in the right direction. He talks about Rocket Gang and his journey so far.

“Rocket Gang is directed by ace choreographer Bosco Martis. So you can expect a full-fledged dance film but you would be surprised to see that it also has a nice blend of action, romance, comedy, dance and horror with a heart-warming story to narrate,” he says.

Bunnu, his character in the project, is a loveable guy with a very unconventional personality. “This character is full of layers as you can’t describe him with just one colour. He is carefree yet responsible, street-smart, but innocent and unconcerned at times and extremely trustworthy. He’s that one friend in your group who you do not take things seriously but you know what he is saying is right,” he adds.

Being an ambivert who loves to be an introvert, but is also an extrovert in certain situations, Jason enjoyed playing this character. “But to think clearly, I gravitate more towards being an introvert and love to keep my personal life to myself,” he says.

About the kind of roles he is looking out for in the entertainment industry, the actor adds, “Since my bones are still intact and I am a dancer who happens to know a little about action, I would want to do a full-on action film. Like War, Commando series, Sooryavanshi, RRR, Baahubali etc. And yes, I would like to do various roles that let me explore the depth of an artist. Having said that, my one true childhood dream has been to play a superhero on-screen.”

Many opine that films are totally different from OTT. Jason says, “Change is constant and this line goes perfectly well in our industry. If you are not willing to explore and update yourself, you’re out of the circle. Nowadays, the line between films and OTT keeps getting slimmer. This generation wants to watch content in the comforts of their homes and have control over the play/pause button. Also, there are a lot of restrictions in theatre releases than on OTT, which is why a lot of good content gets edited from films and makes the cut on OTT.”

The actor’s unconventional look works in his favour, often. When asked about it, he answers both “Yes and no”, and adds, “There are opportunities but also a lot of limitations. But honestly, I’ve been lucky.”

If not an actor Jason would have been a director. “I feel I have an eye for filmmaking from the storyline, script, colour scheme, lighting, directing, dubbing, colour grading, sound editing, editing to the final product. The process fascinates me,” he says.

So where do you see yourself five years from now? “Directing my own film and also maybe acting in it,” he ends.
