Somy Ali colours her hair blonde: When I made the decision, I was terrified, but I did it anyway… now I’m receiving a lot of compliments

Somy Ali decided to change her look and coloured her beautiful long tresses blonde. The actor-turned-humanitarian is happy with the result and has been getting compliments from friends, family, fans and colleagues.

“I get bored easily. It’s just part of my personality. And I enjoy changing my hair style or my style of dressing radically from time to time. I believe change is good. So, this time I wanted to do something completely out of my character and it turns out that I love it. I know that it is not easy to carry off blonde hair and I must admit that when I made the decision, I was terrified, but I did it anyway. Now, I am receiving lots of compliments,” she says.

Negating those who think that this experiment-loving streak is her style statement, Somy adds, “I love trying something new, that’s about it. I idolise JLO, she is a great dancer. She is stunning, and is the epitome of someone who defies the aging process. I like to emulate her style a great deal, be it hair or clothing.”

While she keeps busy working for her NGO, NO More Tears, she also takes time out for herself and enjoys her life. She prefers keeping it glamorous to say the least.

“That is because my work and personal life do not have to be mutually exclusive. I’m not a corporate person and never will be. And, I will not let anything or anyone hinder my ability to be me. I like wearing makeup and sometimes I like to wear something that’s provocative. Yet, I save lives but then me wanting to be glamorous should not be a roadblock with what I do career-wise. There is so much freedom in being yourself and your own boss. There’s greater freedom when you obtain the ability to not care what people say or think of you. I do not judge and don’t care about being judged,” she shares. Somy feels that for every woman it’s important to be strong, independent and carry themselves in a certain way. “Every woman should have the freedom to be who she wishes to be. I think the “MeToo” movement plays a pivotal role in giving women the freedom to be their true selves. We are not fully there yet, but there has been significant progression. We are empowered and we now have a voice,” she adds further.

So what’s her style mantra and who does she look up to when it comes to fashion. “Anything that JLO and Manish Malhotra create inspires me. As far as my style mantra is concerned, it all depends on how I am feeling when I wake up. Of course, if I am going to court, it’s more conservative. There, I don’t have a choice as proper court attire is required. Typically, I enjoy ripped jeans and one of NMT’s t-shirts. Can’t think of a better attire to save lives,” she ends with a smile.
