Anu Aggarwal: As an actor whether my character is an angel heart or an evil delinquent woman makes little difference to my choice to play it

Anu Aggarwal has always been an artist who was ready to take on new challenges and had zero inhibition. Years back, she took the risk of doing Khal-Naaikaa which was ahead of its time. She was not averse to taking a negative role so early in her career, rather she tried something new. Same year Shah Rukh Khan was the only actor who chose to be an anti-hero, which was quite a coincidence. Away from Bollywood, now as a humanitarian and yoga expert, she is running her Anu Aggarwal Foundation on the path of love and positivity. Her fans want to see her back on screen, and the artist within her is also keen. One wonders what sort of comeback she would prefer at a time when the entertainment industry is going through many changes with the increase in sources of entertainment.

“The truth of social consciousness says that a lot of similar incidents happen together. As an actor I am not judgemental about the characters I play. So whether my character is an angel heart or an evil delinquent woman makes little difference to my choice to play it. I go for the potency of the role and in any case good and bad are two sides of the same coin,” she says.

Referring to Khal-Naaikaa and the character she played in it, Anu adds, “I am grateful till date that a psycho-killer role in a female-centric film came to me that early in my career and got me a lot of international acclaim as an actor. Khal-Naaikaa got me the best actor award nomination. It was just a negative role, it was the protagonist, the main role in the film, the story of it was my characters’. The film starts and ends with my role. There are some similarities between my life choices and that of Shah Rukh’s, though the biggest difference is I spent over a decade practising spiritual service to people away from glamour, while he has stuck here and risen incredibly well. I am happy for him (smiles).”

Guess we will have to wait and watch for the big surprise when the Aashiqui star comes back to the screen to lighten it up again!
