Kunal Thakkur: When you’re a celebrity you’re on a platform to be judged, so there’s no escaping that

From Johnny Depp-Amber Heard’s defamation trial, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu opening up about being body shamed to Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas becoming parents via surrogacy, celeb stories always make headlines. Such incidents, at times, also lead to people judging these known names, without knowing the real reason. Escaype Live actor Kunal Thakkur agrees and begins by talking about the pros and cons of the profession.

“When you’re a celebrity you’re on a platform to be judged so there is no escaping that. It comes as a part of the job. Having said that, I feel it’s not fair to be scrutinised 24X7 and somewhere celebrities need to be seen as people who have families too. And, like anyone else they also get affected by negativity and constant judgements,” he says.

Kunal, however, has not faced any such controversy till now. “I’m actually quite a non-controversial guy. I think it’s easier said than done but you have to learn to deal with controversies with a very balanced mindset. I feel calmness cradles a lot of power. As long as your family and close friends understand you, one can handle any situation,” he explains.

Social media makes things go viral. While most of them enjoy the attention, there are many others who react to it.

“One can’t deny that social media has become extremely invasive for celebrities. Going viral for the right content is a great thing but when something that you’re guarding becomes a medium for people’s entertainment, any person is bound to react and get affected. The issue today is that when we are using the pros of social media we will be exposed to the cons as well,” he shares.

Fame has its price. Being a celebrity is not a joke as it has its own baggage as well as responsibilities. “I think every person who reaches where he is, reaches there for a reason. Every celebrity somewhere understands their responsibilities but its situations and circumstances that sometimes make it look otherwise,” he adds.
