83 becomes the highest grocer in the overseas market and I feel so happy.- Sahil Khattar

Kabir Khan’s ‘83’ becomes the highest-grossing & most celebrated Indian film in 2021. It’s been a month since the film released and we asked actor Sahil Khattar who played wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani in the film, about his feelings. Ever since the look was revealed, Sahil has been getting accolades from all quarters because of the uncanny resemblance between him and Syed Kirmani. In fact, the legendary cricketer himself praised Sahil for his dedication.

The actor says, “I am overwhelmed with the feedback I have got. Especially on the scene in the film when I tell Kapil Dev ‘Tu maar, mein khada hu naa’. That scene became viral. One thing I still remember is how during the shooting of this scene Ranveer Singh praised my acting skills. Later on, he messaged me that he got tears in his eyes after seeing my performance. I felt really good because we got applause in the set also for the scene. And once it was out, viewers also liked it. What is fascinating is the fact that now when the audience is watching the scene they are cheering and clapping. As an actor, it’s a great high.”

Sahil also shares an interesting story about how his performance impacted his friend’s son. “He told me that his son was in tears and wanted to become a cricketer after watching the film. My friend’s son always wanted to become a footballer, but 83 changed him.” Sahil adds, “When my friend called me and shared his son’s feeling, I was very emotional. I guess that’s the power of cinema – you can change people.” Sahil adds, “83 becomes the highest grocer in the overseas market and I feel so happy. The film 83 became a cult even before the film was completed. I am proud of the fact that I am part of this magnum opus. Undoubtedly 83 is one of the best films made on cricket.” Before 83 Sahil made his OTT debut with 200 Halla Bol in which he has played the villain Balli Chaudhary. His deadly looks and performance in the film surprised the audience and we can only ask for ‘Ye Dil Mange More’ from this all-rounder actor.

Besides Ranveer Singh, Sahil Khattar 83 boasts of a huge ensemble including Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathi and Deepika Padukone. 83 has beaten the likes of Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan’s biggest blockbuster Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior that released in 2020 and also 2021 releases like Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi and Allu Arjun’s nationwide phenomenon Pushpa: The Rise.

According to the official figures, 83 has grossed Rs 62.54 crore in its 31-day run overseas.
