Actress Hansa Singh did a special cameo in Vikas Bahl’s Goodbye. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rashmika Mandanna, Neena Gupta, Ashish Vidyarthi, among others. Excited to be a part of such a huge film, Hansa opens up about bagging the project, the kind of roles and directors that interest her.
“I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra’s office that the audition I gave is thru, and I’m locked. I would not have missed this opportunity in the world to be in the same frame with Mr. Bachchan and Neena ji. Things became a little easier since I had worked with Vikas earlier in Hunterrr… Neena ji is as natural as she is. It was wonderful meeting her. Sadly, the day of my shoot we lost Yusuf Sahab (veteran actor Dilip Kumar), so I couldn’t take a picture with Mr. Bachchan as he had to rush for his last rights,” says the actor, who has also been a part of projects like Human, Criminal Justice 3 etc. She will be seen next in Manoj Bajpayee starrer Despatch.
Hansa’s cameo in Criminal Justice 3 also got noticed. “I was surprised with messages from my fans saying how much they loved my work. After trying to work together for the longest time with Applause Entertainment and Mr. Rohan Sippy, finally this happened, as if a jinx was broken. For an artist, the best reward is when the entire cast, who doesn’t know you much, appreciates you for your performance,” she adds.
The industry has changed and the actor misses the good old days. “It used to be more personal than how it is today. Being a creative soul, I feel personal touch. So for me, I always say meet me to know me rather than looking at my pics. But as time is changing, one must adapt. Tech wise it’s getting better. But we are still fighting for the status of industry for the Indian film industry on the global stage,” she explains.
Having been in the industry for 20 years now, Hansa has worked in Hollywood projects and Pakistani shows too. “Yet, even today I am waiting for good scripts to do justice to my talent. I do not wish to do cameos anymore. Doing cameos is like giving a paid audition, be it film or OTT,” she says.
Hansa feels patience and perseverance along with love for the craft are essential to become an good actor, and just getting those flashy six-pack abs. “Not denying that sort of body is also required for certain genres of work happening now, and good that we’re exploring variety. I’m a firm believer that when it’s your time, it’ll happen. Nurture hobbies to keep yourself busy when work is less. Keep yourself relevant matters,” adds the actor, who would have been an entrepreneur if she did not become an actor.
“I’m in love with the camera, and to be able to become different characters. The best part is when people see me off camera and wonder how I pulled off that scene (laughs). I love challenges. To be perfect and match my director’s vision gives me a high,” she smiles again.
There is a long list of directors with whom Hansa wants to collaborate with. “I dream of working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The world he creates makes fantasy look real. His gorgeous depiction of characters and heart-warming music makes you crave for more. I also want to be a part of Neeraj Pandey’s world dipped in realism, exploring the espionage genre. Rohit Shetty is also my favourite. He has everything in his films. And of course, SS Rajamouli sir too. I had my hopes up after working with V Vijayendra Prasad sir (Rajamouli’s father) in Aarambh, but I guess that will take some time to happen. I love him for the larger than life vision he creates on celluloid,” says Hansa.
