Meenakshi Sethi: I prefer saying yes to roles that allows me to do more and decline those that doesn’t satisfy my creative urge

Meenakshi Sethi says much like her character Indirani Raisinghania in Yash and Mamta Patnaik’s Ishq Mein Marjawan 2, she too is religious, loving and sentimental in real life. And these similarities help her portray the characters well. She is grateful that the viewers are enjoying her performance.

“When you play a character that is so similar to you, it does make things easier. Indirani is one such character. She has more to what meets the eye and that’s what makes her unique,” she says. Meenakshi has played a variety of roles till date but the ones closest to her heart are Teen Bahuraaniyaan and the film, Aaloo chaat.  “As an artist, I definitely want to do different kinds of roles. We can play different roles at a time in different shows and I can play different roles in the same show also. I am open to doing different roles and prefer saying yes to the ones that I feel will allow me to do more and decline those that do not satisfy my creative urge. Thankfully I have been lucky about getting good opportunities,” she adds.

Reacting to the discussion around how actors get stereotyped on TV easily, Meenakshi says, “It all depends on your capacity and the faith that writer has on you as an artist. By God’s grace, I feel lucky that all my characters are different from each other.”

Talking about how easy or difficult it is for a public figure to avoid keeping their personal life private, the actor feels one needs to know how to maintain a balance. “As far as my personal life is concerned, I have a very simple, open, and noncontroversial life. So I don’t really have to bother about that. But yes this much-required balancing act is difficult but achievable. The moment one lets personal life enters the professional space, it does create trouble,” she concludes.
