Mitu charts her inspiring journey from being a production assistant to now running a production house, YouTube channel and an event management company

As a writer, producer and director Mitu has been behind the success of shows such as Pavitra Rishta, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Saat Phere, Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Kahin Kisi Roz, among others. She shares a wonderful bond with Ekta Kapoor. Mitu began her career as a production assistant with Aapki Adalat on August 20, 1993. Today, she runs her own production house, a YouTube channel and an event management company.

Giving a glimpse of her initial years, she shares, “I worked on Aap Ki Adalat for a year, then I made a corporate documentary with Troubadour company on Rayban. In 1995, I joined Mudra Direct, which is direct mail advertising, and later moved to another such organisation, Direm. In 1996, I joined Home TV as assistant director and worked on a few telefilms for Doordarshan. I also worked on talk shows like On Air and Aap Ki Awaz. After Home TV shut down, I joined Gurbir Grewal, who was a National Award-winning fiction director at that time. I was his assistant director till January 1999. Then I joined Bag Films in 1999 and worked on the show, Superhit Muqabla. In 2000, I came to Mumbai and in June joined Balaji as executive producer. I worked on a number of shows with them and from being an EP I became a creative director. Second half of 2004, I directed my first short film called O Re Manvaa that featured Sakshi Tanwar, Vinay Pathak, Suchita Trivedi etc. Then I made my short film Setu. Piyush Mishra wrote the song for it. In 2005 I joined Manish Goswami and worked with him on a show called Sixer that was loosely based on Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kamble’s life, but it never got made.”

Moving on, Mitu worked on the show Sarkarr, based on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s life. In 2005, she joined Sunjoy Wadhwa of Sphere Origins and set up and worked on Saat Phere.

“In 2006 I made a pilot of my show called Samman ek Adhikar and in mid-2006 I joined Balaji. I was with till 2009, and by then my show Samman Ek Adhikar got approved for DD. I began my journey as a producer from February 2009. Till 2011, Samman… starring Jayati Bhatia, Krunal Pandit, Naveen Saini, Upasana Shukla (was the lead), Bharat Chawda (was the hero), Mikki Dudani,Cameos by Sudha Chandran and Deepak Qazir,” she adds.

In mid-2011, Mitu made her second short film called Bawra Maan with Sakshi Tanwar, Nishikant Kamat, Anand Tiwari. It did festival runs and bagged a few awards. She then joined Balaji again in the same year.

Mitu now runs her own production house Positive Thinkerz and a YouTube channel (Positive Thinkerz Official). They did a series on gender sensitization post Nirbhaya on their YouTube channel called Dil Sej.

“From 2014 till now I have been running Positive Thinkerz. We did shows like Pehel Ek Nayi Subah, Bhaage Re Maan for DD. We also did the pilot for a Star Plus show. In 2018, I did Tantra as a creative, along with starting PEGASUSFETE, our event management company. Our first event was children’s day for a college with Mayur Puri’s Story Circus. We’ve good clients and had planned a kids flea when Covid disrupted all our plans. During the lockdown in 2020, I started a series called Seize the Day on positive reinforcement with 80 popular TV actors on YouTube. In January 2021, we began earning from the channel and started work on a show with Smita Shah that got pushed due to Covid. We also did a series on Covid called Hamari Suraksha Hamare Haath Mein Hai, and another series on Covid Saviours that is anchored by the top 10 actors of TV. Then we made an anniversary special series on Bade Acche Lagte Hai and a birthday film for Pavitra Rishta. We also did a small feature for Sushant Singh Rajput on his first death anniversary, followed by a comic anime series on Bade Acche… I also wrote Porus, Detective Didi, Savdhan India… All in all, the journey so far has been amazing and I look forward to doing more,” she concludes.
