Shattering boundaries between mainstream and regional cinema, actress-producer Sargun Mehta has always won hearts with her performances. She entered the Punjabi film industry a few years back, and instantly achieved fame with her films. A testimony to this love and adulation is the fact that she is the only Punjabi actress ever to make it to the prestigious Asian Stars of 2022 list.
The others on this list include superstars such as Shah Rukh Khan, southstar Vijay, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, TV actress Rupali Ganguly, musician Arijit Singh, cinema icon Kamal Haasan among others.
Sargun, who is full of gratitude, took to social media to express her happiness. “Its not the ranking that makes me happy, because everyone is winning in whatever they are doing ; as that is their personal goal victory ..For me , just sharing my name with all the people i love and who have inspired me gave me goosebumps.Thank you … just gratitude,” she wrote, along with an announcement of the award. Her post was instantly met with congratulatory messages from her peers in the industry.
She made her Punjabi film debut with Angrej; the production, which was the second-highest Punjabi grossing film at the time. She has also been seen in Love Punjab (2016) and Lahoriye (2017) and has won many awards over the years, including Filmfare award. Some of her other Punjabi hits include Kala Shah Kala, Surkhi Bindi, Jhalle, Qismat 2, Moh and Saunkan Saunkne which is also 2022’s highest grosser in Punjab and 2nd highest Punjabi grosser ever.
Besides her work as an actor, Sargun also heads a production house along with her husband, actor Ravie Dubey. Together they have produced some wonderful shows, including the very popular Udaariyaan. She has produced many Punjabi films as well such as Jhalle.
She has also made her Bollywood debut in the film suspense thriller, Cuttputlli, which stars Akshay Kumar.
