Work is worship for me: Bhumika Chawla

Bhumika Chawla has carved a niche for herself in the southern film industry with movies like Yuvakudu, Okkadu, Simhadri, Missamma, Naa Autograph, Anasuya, Middle Class Abbayi, Bhramaram, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, to name a few. Having done movies like Tere Naam, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa, and Run, among others, she stressed that actors shouldn’t have screen-time as a criterion when choosing films. She feels having an attitude about things can lead to an actor’s downfall.

“Work is worship for me. Generally when you have a gap in your career people start to compare their then and now situations, like earlier they were given more screen time and now they are not, but I never really cared about all these things. I always felt that it should be a good film, with a good character, and have continued to work, even if it meant in another language. You shouldn’t be stuck because if you have a fixed attitude towards work that’s when your downfall begins. You should just enjoy your work and give it your best,” said the actress who was recently seen in Telugu movies Seetimaarr and Idhe Maa Katha.

Bhumika also confessed that she has never let the highs and lows of her career affect her because for her what matters the most is to keep working.

“I never had very high expectations from anything. I just did my job and never really thought of the highs and lows in my career. I always wanted to do the thing that I am passionate about, which is acting, and did not let language become a barrier for me. Also, I feel if you come across a low, you must talk about it with your friends and family. If you are going through a low, meditation and connecting with god or reading good books is also very helpful but you shouldn’t keep it inside yourself,” she suggested.

When asked for her opinion on why only a few actors from down south were able to make it big in B’Town, she said, “There are a few actors from the south who were able to make it big in Bollywood and there are a few actors from Bollywood who are successful in the south. I feel it depends on how much the audience connects to a character and the looks as well.”

“If the viewers are not able to connect, then be it any industry the actor won’t be successful,” Bhumika concluded.
