Celebs give their take on Johnny Depp, Amber Heard case

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard hearings have gained popularity over the course of the last few weeks and Depp has finally succeeded in winning the defamation case.

Yes, I have watched the hearings when I could , and have followed the case as well. I think the verdict was spot-on seeing all the proof that was presented. This was a very high profile case and very drastic accusations were made by Amber for one of the most loved of all actors. So yes, the live telecast was good because everyone could also see that it was an honest trial, otherwise people may have said it was rigged because he is so big. Seeing it live, to be honest, even I was sure that most of the stuff were lies, so there was clarity on what the judgment should be! And it felt right! For sure, it should be done in India because people get away with all kinds of crimes here because of contacts or money etc. So, it will be much harder if it’s televised and maybe there will be more justice too, at least for high profile cases.

I haven’t followed regularly. It was more of a coincidence when something or other would pop up then I would see it. As for the verdict, it’s not my life. I feel extremely sad for any human being who has to go through this kind of ordeal and be under the spotlight. Relationships between two human beings are something personal and meant to be sacred. When things go wrong it’s painful for both parties. I somehow don’t like that to be exhibited in the public domain. I do understand the socio- cultural differences of the eastern and western world. The legal system too is different. A person growing up in that part of the world is obviously not a stranger to the system but what about their emotional scar or trauma? Do the concerned people really like it to be highlighted and observed by the whole world? What about privacy? That’s my concern. Obviously, this concern does not make televising the proceedings acceptable, personally, for me. But then, the legal system and the constant repression of serious issues like domestic violence or child abuse raises the question of probable necessity of this kind of format, but one should be careful about the collateral damage it can create.

I have been closely watching the whole case between Depp and Heard. I feel these situations that have been televised are also an eye opener to a lot of people who can see the truth themselves. A case of this sort should be put in front of people even in India as it’s only showing you the exact truth. No hypocrisy and no beating around the bush. These allegations and accusations must be put in public domain and this case is a great example.

I have been observing and I followed the case to some extent as well. A lot of people were predicting or a lot of them had doubts that Johnny must have done all this. When it comes to the hearings, their lawyers were to the point and had all the proof. Somewhere Amber goofed up because a lot of lies and stupid things that she mentioned was caught. Also, some things were not done and she lied many times. As a person, I feel personal things should not come out open in public. Public should know the right and wrong but hearing in public, I am not in favour of that. Some things are private but, yes, the truth should come out. I feel that no one should be biased by their genders. No matter what, wrong is wrong. Sometimes a false case is filed against someone which they don’t realise as your career and life is ruined. It’s a trauma that one person goes through, no matter whichever party it is. The person who imposes false claims should be behind the bars and get the real punishment. That’s how it would stop as people take advantage of this.
