Reyen Eyes created songs on an almost broken laptop!

Attitude singer Reyen Eyes has several skills and says that he believes in the entirety of the craft.
He is just 20, and he identifies himself as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, beatboxer, music producer, and mixing and mastering engineer. “I believe in the entirety of the craft for my own self. I enjoy it end to end. It is really fulfilling and I am constantly hungry for more,” he said. When asked to comment on releasing an album at the age of 20, he says that he wants to make English music next and according to those standards, might be running late.

“It feels great overall because I started making my first beats on an almost broken laptop just three years ago. Less than just three years later and after already releasing a few songs, I am super excited to release my first album before crossing into my 20s,” shared the artist whose name is actually from his grandfather’s first name which was Narayan.
“I took Rayan and shaped it into Reyen. And Eyes is from what I believe that they’re the doors to know if someone has lost the love for you,” he said. His grandfather was in civil services, his father is an officer in defense and his mother is a teacher.

“I have an elder sister who is a musician in Paris. My childhood has been super dynamic. I come from a very middle-class family, but one very atypical at that. Each one of us went through very unconventional challenges. Things still fit well in a weird way and allowed us to not give up no matter what. I am just twenty right now, but I can already feel how I am able to do something special which I couldn’t even have thought of if the hundreds of atypical things we have had not been there,” he said. “My dad can talk for hours on science, philosophy, play all sorts of instruments, sing, paint, do so many sports, you name it. My mom is… let’s just say in short that she is the personification of sacrifice, a gem of a teacher for the underprivileged children, and strong as a rock,” he shared.

He suddenly decided to become an artist when it felt like if God shows you a vision and practically gives you the skills to do it, well, there is not much thinking left for you to do. “I had first started singing, messing with instruments when my father gave me that ambiance when I was in kindergarten. I held my first instrument when I was in the 7th grade, a guitar. Since then, I have learned to play drums, keyboard, and wind instruments like flute, harmonica, etc. But I will always be a bachelor of all, master of none,” said the artist.

When he finished schooling, the thought of joining a college had him scared. “Sometimes the answer is floating right in front of you but you have been seeing it from a different POV. That is when I realized, the gift God has given me, was not just a remedy, it was the cure. I knew then that I exist to create music. Since then and till the end, I will be an instrument of nature and I am so lucky to have found my purpose,” said Reyen. He has trained on his own for pretty much everything he does in the field of music. “I cannot believe the kind of setup I learned it all with, a laptop that wouldn’t even do a Google search fast enough was used by me to produce songs with plugins etc. Just a few years ago, as a school kid, I used to grab random stuff lying around the house and play music with it. I used a simple battery run piano and beatboxing to make my first loops! I prefer creative stuff to emerge from within, rather than getting poured by someone else. Talking specifically about singing, my liking is to sing in a mixed voice so I have heard a lot of Michael Jackson and The Weeknd. Also, I have to give it to Post Malone that I got into hip-hop. He introduced pop-rap to me. The headlining track in my upcoming Hindi album is a pop-rap track called Maaf Karna,” he shared.

According to him, when you become a music producer, you miss the times when you did not know anything about production. “Because now every time I am listening to a song, my mind focuses on its elements – the arrangement, the mix, and mastering. So, it is hard for me to enjoy a song but I listen to myself, MJ, The Weeknd, and Post Malone, all of these are my favourites,” he shared. His new album, 1628, is releasing on 3rd December.

“It’s a story of whatever I went through between 16 to 18 years of my age. People who have had a chance to sneak a pre-release listen were astonishingly very much connected to the lyrics and music. It does have four party songs where I took a little creative liberty, but still, they have real human and personal elements. My debut album has tracks that are EDM, party, Punjabi, acoustic sad/love, pop-rap and experimental music. I wanted to be true to my art and work with a combination of what I have learned myself on my 30 thousand rupees partly broken laptop, and the story that I wanted to tell – all of it,” he said.
The album will release on all streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Facebook, etc. and his official YouTube channel. “My mind was bustling with ideas. It felt like the songs will keep piling up, and with my English songs coming up, it would have been too much to just sit on. So, after the release of my debut, Attitude, I decided to release all these songs independently in an album sewn together. A lot of details went into it,” he said.

“From which instruments to use to how to craft the melody, how to tell the story with honesty, how to sing, how to then process the sound to get the final result that I need- which is known as mixing and mastering. I can only say that to create each and every element, end to end, of an entire 100% original album from scratch, is a lot of passion, self-acquired knowledge and sleepless nights,” he added. On working with Nita Shilimkar, he shared, “Shooting the music video with her was really great. I had created that song when I was 18. It was Nita’s first Hindi as well as first-party music video. She complimented me on my music and I think it was a nice change for her from TikTok at that time. Later she did a music video in Desi Music Factory on a song sung by the very talented Asees Kaur.”
